Did cmake fail? It doesn't depend on much else. Meanwhile, pbulk does
not report transitive failures nicely (I forget the exact details) and
it's unlikely that the current bulktracker does any of the things one
might do to work around that.

It is unfortunately hard to avoid cmake.
