Well, the easiest example is that if this this change had been available a couple days ago, I would not have had to ask how to rescan an atabus in order to find a newly-attached SATA disk drive. (See the beginning entries in this thread.)
I knew that the drive would be attached to an atabus, but had no idea of what interface-attribute to specify. With these changes, I could have discovered that "ata_hl" and "atapibus" were the two possible values, and I could easily have eliminated atapibus from consideration.
