True. On some ancient Linux system this wasn't even enough because
not all buffers were flushed when unmounting. You had to _read_
from the raw device to work around the bug.

But that's still something different from a visual cue telling
you "busy - don't touch" or from a synchronous mount that nowadays
works fine to give a consistent filesystem even when not umounted.
