The mariadb package in pkgsrc hasn't been updated in years.  If nobody
is interested in maintaining it then it will continue to be old and
broken.  Our customers at Joyent use Percona, so that is what we've
focused on providing.

It's again just a case of people that are interested in them stepping
up and fixing the problems.

You'd be surprised, it's not that difficult, and as this email shows
we're always in need of more maintainers to keep packages updated and
building correctly.
