macppc does that ( well, sort of ) and the code moved to arch/powerpc/ 
oea/ofw_rascons.c, should probably go to dev/ofw/ since there's not  
much in there that's really powerpc-specific except a handful machine- 
specific workarounds. It sets up a simple rasops-based dumb fb console  
right after kernel startup which is later overridden by a real console  
driver.
