IMHO this is the major issue. Let's try to restrict gplv3 to compile time
dependencies as much as possible, don't make it easy to abuse for other code
in base.

The free alternatives look like an interesting aproach, especially if they
can replace the BN stuff from openssh someday as well, but I won't hold my
breath right now.

And, as a mostly unrelated data point: building libgmp native from
pkgsrc on a VAX or a shark is not a realy big issue (don't remember
exact numbers, but IIRC both finished over night)
