Re: OldWorld floppy and serial port work

Actually, my bad... turns out it was the other end of the serial line that's the problem. :-) If I just use a Mini-DIN8->DB9 conversion and run it to a *real* serial port on my Windows machine, it behaves; the Keyspan adaptor must be having issues (it's been otherwise well-behaved so far, though). I just took the macppc FAQ about the serial ports at its word, and I suppose that's what I get. We might want to update that sometime?

The problem still exists, at least in NetBSD 5.1 from two weeks ago. I was talking with a PowerMac 6400-type motherboard and had the serial port lock up on me because I forgot that the problem still exists.

You can usually make it happen by sending and receiving simultaneously. Edit a file in vi or pico and hold down an arrow key to cause the screen to scroll; if the arrow key repeats get sent before the scroll rewriting is complete, it'll usually lock the serial port. Of course, ssh and the rest of the system are still fine.
