Great. Tried some of these successfully. the *fetch do work. dmenu works, wget works.

hexchat opens the server list window and crashes immediately. Probably doesn't like 1bpp. 8086tiny uses a lot of cpu and doesn't even open a window, even after an hour or so. I'll likely do further testing, in a day or two.
FYI - 8086tiny runs as a big endian 8086 on a big endian host CPU, so unless you have 8086 big endian software and BIOS, I don't think it'll work ;)
I believe DOSBox is available, though. Regarding hexchat, does it work with a remote X server? John
