Paul,I'm not sure if this is what you mean, but your question sounds like what I just did the other day to send the daily emails which go to the local root user by default, to my external email address instead. If that is your goal, I followed these directions:
https://hostman.com/tutorials/how-to-configure-postfix-using-external-smtp-servers/ From "Configuring Postfix" through "Testing the SMTP Server".I did not use the method in this page under "Setting Up Email Forwarding". Since I already had a .forward file in root's home directory redirecting root to my regular user, I just changed it to redirect to my external email address.
Having done that, I found that my email provider did not like email that said it was from root@my.machine, so I changed the from field to my external email address by following the instructions that currently have a score of 16 and start with "The question is five years old..." on this page: https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/379175/how-do-i-change-postfix-sender-address
Now I can read those nightly emails in Thunderbird on whatever host I'm on. Jeff On 10/28/26 3:17 PM, Paul Goyette wrote:

Switched to them a while ago based on recommendation from another NetBSD dev. I use fetchmail and dump into nmh. I don't use their web interface.
