I have a DNS _spf record set up for my domain and anything external to
my network (ie VPSs) and external hosts don't do anything special to
route email.  I also have some DKIM records set up too.  Then I just use
out-of-the-box postfix to send mail out.  No other fancy config (that I
can recall!).

At least for fastmail, I think I just followed their guide:
