It does not surprise me :/ HP and their BIOSes are a nightmare. 
I bought an old HP Pavillion on which and tried swapping a PCI wireless card 
compatible with NetBSD. When I booted the laptop I got a message that
the card is not on their whitelist.. a learning experience not to get
anything from HP (except for the HP48X ;)).
