In my case when transfers stalls, there's no errors reported in dmesg.
processes accessing the drive are just stuck on xfer.
Disconnecting/reconnecting the drive is usually enough to get it working
again; but of course I have to fsck it ...
It may be an issue specific to my USB/SATA adapter
