Heh. Kind of hokey looking. Though I agree it is time to stop viewing data through the eye of a needle all the time and instead be able to just address it like memory. However this PMEM thing sure as heck isn't Multics-like enough for me to consider it. I think things like NVDIMMs, etc., should be used as performance enhancements for a more orthogonal single-level storage model, not as an alternative storage device. I also really don't see the point of trying to bolt such APIs onto POSIX-like operating systems -- much smarter to build an underlying OS with single-level storage and then bolt POSIX compatibility onto that (which is incredibly easy to do by comparison). In fact that's exactly what I want to do. -- Greg A.
