So I read that and backed out the changes from
 http://mail-index.netbsd.org/source-changes/2017/03/02/msg082462.html
and now it works!
The thing now is what to do about the problem in kern/52440 to make older
machines like this not get left behind.

Apologies to coypu for dismissing the MSI interrupt problem.
