Re: setup a printer/scanner server with cups/sane/hplip
Hi,
this evening I tried to install the hp photosmart 309a. I installed
hplip from current (updated some days ago) and compiled a new custom
kernel without ulpt and uscanner...
If I plug in the printer tail tells me:
----------------------------
Dec 4 21:29:30 nbsd_t43p /netbsd: umass0 at uhub3 port 3 configuration
1 interface 3
Dec 4 21:29:30 nbsd_t43p /netbsd: umass0: HP Photosmart C309a series,
rev 2.00/1.00, addr 2
Dec 4 21:29:30 nbsd_t43p /netbsd: umass0: using SCSI over Bulk-Only
Dec 4 21:29:30 nbsd_t43p /netbsd: scsibus0 at umass0: 2 targets, 1 lun
per target
Dec 4 21:29:30 nbsd_t43p /netbsd: sd0 at scsibus0 target 0 lun 0: <HP,
Photosmart C309a, 1.00> disk removable
Dec 4 21:29:30 nbsd_t43p /netbsd: sd0: drive offline
Dec 4 21:29:30 nbsd_t43p /netbsd: sd0: unable to open device, error = 19
Dec 4 21:29:44 nbsd_t43p hp-setup: hp-setup[7144]: error: No device
selected/specified or that supports this functionality.
----------------------------
I expected a ugen- device would be messaged... Hm, however my older
epson scanner is detected as ugen0:
----------------------------
Dec 4 21:55:54 nbsd_t43p /netbsd: ugen0 at uhub1 port 2
Dec 4 21:55:54 nbsd_t43p /netbsd: ugen0: EPSON EPSON Scanner, rev
1.10/1.00, addr 2
----------------------------
If I try hp-setup -i and choose usb-device I get:
----------------------------
error: No device selected/specified or that supports this functionality.
----------------------------
even tail tells me that:
----------------------------
Dec 4 21:29:44 nbsd_t43p hp-setup: hp-setup[7144]: error: No device
selected/specified or that supports this functionality.
----------------------------
Something strange or buggy in the new hplip package; I didn't find a
example dll.conf which is printed while installing the hplip package
(MESSAGE.scan) and the new packages PLIST.scan differs to the older
version...
But with the older package (pkgsrc-2012Q3) there are the same messages...
Ideas?
Greetings,
Helge

somebody of you a working setup?
I have struggled and chased this problem down to successfully getting the
printer work. Following are the links to threads:
This ended in failure, though may be useful account of things to try:
http://mail-index.netbsd.org/netbsd-users/2011/11/20/msg009600.html
This succeeded finally:

If the threads don't suffice, please post your experiences and I'll try to
help you.
Mayuresh.
