i tried every single option on 2 different machines, one of which
has 5.1 installed.

the procedure is this:

1. downloaded i386 iso and install img from netbsd.org ftp.
2. i. dd the iso to the stick with bs=1m. that one gives me this:

How, *exactly*?

i'm not sure what more exactly except the command itself with the output:

# dd if=NetBSD-6.0_RC1-i386-install.img of=/dev/disk2s2 bs=1m
512+0 records in
512+0 records out
536870912 bytes transferred in 413.500711 secs (1298355 bytes/sec)
#

it's getting to be a bit of a pain. something that should take about 15
min total including downloading the image is taking days now...

this is getting more interesting by the minute. so i was writing to a partition of the stick. i just figured that out. ok. stupid.

anyway now when the thing boots of the stick it stops with: hd0a:netbsd: No such file or directory.

same for netbsd.gz onetbsd, netbsd.old, etc....

so what id did was i copied the NetBSD-6.0_RC2-i386-install.img.gz to netbsd.gz and dd that to the stick. that got bypassed.

how do i copy the rc2 image to the stick so the damn thing can find it?
