If I aim to mount disk2 at /var then I would have to do something more like
# cp -R /var/* /tmp/disk2
so that cp copies just the contents of the /var directory and not the /var 
directory itself... yes?

From that I got the following result:
cp: /var/run/log: Operation not supported 

Why would that happen if I am doing this as root?
