AFAIK, the VMware tools are purely for convenience. The "vmware" driver
for XFree86 is part of the standard XFree86 and NetBSD distribution, so
an entry
Driver "vmware"
in XF86Config is sufficient. I can send you my configuration, if you
want. Of course, I don't know whether this will solve your problem--I'm
running the 32-bit version with a GENERIC kernel, your problems may be
64-bit or MP-related.
