I disagree. The idea behind 2N (+1) is that no core is ever idling because
a process is waiting for disk I/O. The exceptions is of course when the
additional processes consume too much memory and the system starts to
page a lot.

I use "-j 2" on my single and "-j 4" on my dual core system and achieve
good build performance with that setting.
