I'm happy to report that Mathematica 8.0 works too (not quite out of
the box though; I had to apply some dirty hacks to installation and
execution scripts).

I haven't had a chance to modify lang/sun-jdk6 yet, in order to have
it install 64-bit binaries instead of i586 ones; but I don't expect
any major difficulty there, since both MATLAB and Mathematica come
pre-packaged with functional 64-bit Linux Java binaries.

It might not be bad to start documenting installation instructions for
Linux apps in a wiki or something at some point.  Would the new wiki
be appropriate for this purpose?
