Could you try with both installed and then only with db4 installed?.
That is:

1. Only db6.
2. Only db4.
3. Both.

bsddb3 should use the highest version available.

So, we could say that current bsddb3 release works on pkgsrc systems :).

I see that and I see also <http://pkgsrc.se/databases/py-bsddb3>:

Also, I didn't get the tracker email notification (awesome service).
