Then I guess the issue is, why did it offer me that option, and, if the
CDs aren't built with sets on them any more (as is implied by this
being the case on possibly the most important single port there is),
why is the option still in the code at all?  (Also, why aren't the CDs
built with sets on them any longer?  Seems to me it's an unnecessary
barrier to installs.)

Also, why not mount it again?  I see no harm that could ensue from
multiple mounts of the same piece of media, provided all the mounts are
RO (as they always will be for cd9660 mounts).  I've done it myself
often enough with ffs, by creating a second partition in the disklabel
with the same offset and size as the partition I want to double-mount.
(And I've always been annoyed by the need to do that.)
