On ADB keyboards?
INSTALL and GENERIC may or may not default to different keymaps  
although that doesn't seem overly likely and I don't remember ever  
seeing what you describe.

If the key is there is should do what most people expect, there is  
absolutely nothing macppc specific in there.
So, if I understand you correctly you want numlock to be turned on by  
default? I'm sure that would give similar reactions from other people.
I have no idea if the ukbd driver has such an option, it shouldn't be  
difficult to add though.
