Let's see how far I get. It is also positive that thigns are quite stable.A year ago systems tended to lock up during compilation and I aborted certain packages.

no intention to accuse anyone, I was just wondering. The sparc community was small but quite loyal until some time ago and sometimes there were certain issues behind such choices. E.g. inability to build a minimum set, emulator failure or whatever. The existence of a couple of months old distribution proved that.
