 joerg@ was kind enough to point me to the changes in v1.65 of
 compat_defs.h so with a bit of hacking I came up with the following patch:

 Applying it, I now have netbsd-4 i386/amd64/sparc/sparc64 building on a
 netbsd-5 amd64 host.  I'd appreciate it if someone could just double
 check the patch before I request a pullup.
