I caught it again on BOTH machines, and this time, savecore reports

        panic: SPL NOT LOWERED ON TRAP EXIT 6 0
        panic: trap

Same backtrace on both machines as reported above. Sources were updated via CVS on 2008-08-03 at 20:58:50 UTC
