I think that's a very bad idea.  We deliberately did _not_ pick up the
change in question because it causes filesystem access on every name
lookup.

Last time I looked, its maximum poll rate was once/min -- it only checked the file status if more than 60 seconds had elapsed since the last one.

The question is whether or not there's a lighter-weight intermediate solution for laptops than running a full caching named.
