Re: 6.1.4. won't run on a large drive

Hi,

Ok, I found an 18GB Seagate Barracuda drive, and have tried to install 6.1.4. SBC on it, but it won’t boot, complaining ”bad UFS”. I’ve formatted the drive with a 2GB Mac partition, twice the RAM size for swap, and the rest for Root&User. The Mac OS has no complaints.

  Any hints?

If you're using the Installer program from MacOS, it may be worth noting that it hasn't been updated in more than ten years and it might be the culprit. I'm running several mac68k machines with large root volumes:

sd0 at scsibus0 target 0 lun 0: <ATA, KINGSTON SVP200S, 106P> disk fixed
sd0: fabricating a geometry
sd0: 57241 MB, 57241 cyl, 64 head, 32 sec, 512 bytes/sect x 117231408 sectors
sd0: sync (248.00ns offset 15), 8-bit (4.032MB/s) transfers, tagged queueing

Filesystem 1G-blocks Used Avail %Cap Mounted on
/dev/sd0a 54 7 43 14% /

sd0 at scsibus0 target 0 lun 0: <ATA, Hitachi HDS72161, P22O> disk fixed
sd0: 149 GB, 77525 cyl, 64 head, 63 sec, 512 bytes/sect x 312581808 sectors
sd0: sync (248.00ns offset 14), 8-bit (4.032MB/s) transfers

Filesystem 1G-blocks Used Avail %Cap Mounted on
/dev/sd0a 147 14 125 10% /

In both instances, though, I booted an install kernel and either used sysinst or manually installed the sets fetched via FTP.

How did you do your installation?

John
