I had a similar problem after updating LyX... it wan't actually able to
format any documents.

I think I searched PLISTs for what seemed to be missing (I don't recall
the error message but I don't think it was completely explicit) to find
that I had to install teTeX3-texmf.

I was wondering the same... or why the dependency wasn't already there.
