x11/modular-xorg-server is not stable



Greetings,

I'm having enormous issues with pkgsrc/x11/modular-xorg-server in that it:

1) crashes under any load. Not even a heavy load, just something like opening a
tab or two in Firefox and then moving the mouse around. This is extremely
frustrating to do any sort of work with. The server crashes and is unable to
recover in any way, if it was started by xinit or is being managed by a display
manager. Sometimes, i can ctrl + alt + backspace it, hit the power button, and
then my disks will unmount before the computer powers down. Sometimes, i can
control + alt + escape and drop into imaginary debugger mode and then issue the
reboot command, which sometimes unmounts my disks.

2) a good portion of my keys don't work - arrow keys, page up/down, end, delete,
insert, etc.

3) applications just run slower. This is a 2.x GHz machine with 2GB of RAM.
There's no excuse for the latency i'm seeing here.

I read about a similar issue a user was having on this list during the last
quarter of last year; however, nothing i've run into configuration-wise solves
this. Note, that the last version of modular-xorg-server that was being used
didn't have this issues. I'm questioning why, if this package is so incredibly
unstable, this was pulled up from wip to HEAD. If anyone has any recommendations
to resolve these issues, i'd be all ears.
