Bad network performance in virtualbox

Hello! Im running netbsd 11 in virtualbox on freebsd. I've tried to do simple networking stuff like installing small packages with pkgin but the performance makes it impossible basically. I've tried using the defaults for networking and also changing to bridged networking and virtio but no avail. To rule out anything else I installed a freebsd VM which had no issues with speed. Is there some particular combination of networking settings for virtualbox needed for netbsd to get good performance?
