I solved the problem(s). It seems that I have a misbehaving USB1 port.
At the beginning of my NetBSD installation journey, I had the USB stick in that
wonky port.
The installation booting hung.
I moved the USB stick to another port and put the wireless receiver in USB1.
The install succeeded, BUT - I had no keyboard - both laptop and wireless - at
the login prompt.
I moved the wireless to another free USB port - now my wireless keyboard is
working. The wireless mouse no! But I'm happy, because I can start hacking on
my fresh install. I have a few other issues to solve for another post to the
mailing list.
