This happens when the loaded kernel can not find out which device
you booted from, which could happen for various reasons.
We need to know more about your system and how you booted to analyze the
issue.
How to get further: type
?
and enter, that should get you a list of device names that the kernel could
use for the root filesystem. Also tell us how you booted the machine
(from USB? from CD/R? which image did you download?).
Please transcribe what the system answered to the ? command, then we
may be able to tell you what to answer to get installation going further.
