I do:
service xdm start
result:
xdm does not exist in /etc/rc.d
So where does /etc/rc.d/*xdm come from?
Do I need to make and install xdm?
I am using modular-xorg stuff.

I followed stuff on online doc. Doesnt work.
I think being a little more descriptive about what does not work might help?
well you can use my repository
than pkg_add -Uv modular-xorg xdm
You can use your browser to take a look at those 2990 packages
Please note that it can overwrite things in your system. as it will pull dependencies...
If you really want an very usable NetBSD 10.1,
remove all your packages using pkg_delete -ff '*' this will remove all your pkgs
than without logging out, and with PKG_PATH defined to my packages, just do
pkg_add -Uv bash rsync modular-xorg mate-lzt... it will install full mate-desktop
just configure it to run xdm (/usr/pkg/etc/xdm/....) and you have a very usefull NetBSD
Enjoy
