Doesn't the image use GPT nowadays?
So it will be dkN instead of vnd0a, try

	dkctl vnd0 listwedges

(after the vnconfig) to see if there are any. And then use 

	mount /dev/dkN /mnt

(where N is the proper number for the root partition, from the listwedges
output)
