I grabbed the GIT pkgsrc tree and did 'make replace' for /devel/glib2 and /systutils/dbus. On reboot dbus started normally with no complaint. Still using icewm but gedit launched with no complaint either.
After building dbus there is no evidence of LaunchAgents on the system anywhere.
Interestingly enough, on a whim I retried to launch my gnome3. It actually started, if only to tell me "Oh no. Something has gone wrong...," etc, but it was a nice X window message with a button 'n everything. <g>
