Re: non-functional /usr/mdec/boot? - NetBSD 9_Stable (20210114)

>>> >> boot hd0:boot
>>> > boot: hd0a:boot Input/output error

upon further testing, I do not think this result means anything
about i/o... Has anyone tested this method
to validate the /boot file? (trying to boot into it directly)

If I try this sequence with a functional /boot (from n8) or
/boot for n9.1 (official release base set) or from the releng
dailies n9_stable binary builds, I get the same result saying
i/o error (same message as above).

Also both n91 release /boot and dailies 9_stable /boot just hang
with the same messages posted in the original question. At the
moment, only my previous /boot from n8 release cd or n8_stable
boot properly...

It feels to me like the 1st stage booter I have installed is incompatible
somehow with the n9/n9_stable boot program... is
there any way to verify which version first stage booter is
actually being activated? Maybe I can go into the source and
add something to it's announce string so I can at least see
if the latest one I installed (via installboot) is really
installed?
