The NetBSD disklabel(8) will happily do that, too...

But the kernel won't find it and you can not use the subpartitions, or
am I overlooking something? The whole setup makes no sense at all to me.

I guess I was thinking of the workarounds needed on NetBSD before a gpt-only RAID1 became bootable.
