ZFS can identify disks by different methods, i.e. FreeBSD lets you select
a partition with the GPT label. Similar could be achieved with devpubd
_if_ it would run before ZFS is started.

Another method is to export and import the zpool. Importing scans disks
for ZFS labels and doesn't need the cached device paths. That's similar
to how LVM works.
