OK I managed to get a dmesg.
Note that I set up NetBSD from the external DVD drive but the ATA DVD
drive is still attached. There is also a PCI adapter which gives me an
extra ATA and SATA channel and an Adaptec SCSI controller which I
don't have the tape drive attached to at the moment.
I have updated the BIOS for this board (ASUS P5K-SE/EPU) to the latest
version available at Asus.
