I managed to get this working using a LSI 2108 which is supported by
netbsd..  Also you were correct the Ethernet Intel 82576 controller is
support using netbsd-daily.

Any idea when the LSI 2008 would be supported..

My install on the H8DG6-F never gets to that stage as it does not find the
HDD. And I used current

I'm surprised that the 82576 isn't working: I have some supermicro servers
with this adapter, and I've no problems with it (since I worked around an
issue with HW vlan tagging :):

wm0: 65536 word (16 address bits) SPI EEPROM

This is with 5.1_STABLE (netbsd-5 branch), wm(4) may not have the support in
the netbsd-5-1 branch.
