Hmm, i would recommend to take a look at the "good old" dump / restore for 
incremental and / or difference backups.

From my experience i hardly assume that dump acts much more ressource friendly 
then rsync - especially at the "target media" (which is by default a tape - but 
afaik most users today use dump into files (with -f) instead).
