This command may not do the expected work because there is not an -s
before /var/tmp/xetc.tgz, and etcupdate(8) will not detect extraneous
arguments at the end of the command line (/var/tmp/xetc.tgz in this
case) and quit with an error.

Maybe somebody has fixed that bug since I last stumbled on it.
