FWIW I've just built NetBSD-current (as of around 9AM GMT on the 19th)
for an amd64 target on a 32bit Debian 5 system, without issues. So you
should be able to build okay now.
Sources were copied from a NetBSD box then CVS updated to be current,
build command used was:-
./build.sh -O ../obj -T ../tools -mamd64 -X ../xsrc -x -j3 -U -N0 release
(this is as a normal, non root user), I also added the config to the
kernel and built that, and that seems to build okay too. FWIW the
system used was:-
Linux pvr 2.6.24.7 #4 SMP PREEMPT Fri Aug 14 19:54:46 BST 2009 i686 GNU/Linux
Cheers,
Ian
