OK. I was going for the "maybe you commented out the CD9660
driver, intended to have it as an LKM, and forgot to load it"
(I've made that mistake, and wondered `why can't I mount a SIMPLE
CD??' until I remembered...); but GENERIC includes the driver, so
I've got nothing. All I can think of is dd'ing several blocks of
the cd0d device into a normal file and running "file" on it to see
if there are magic numbers in it that reveal something.
On second thought, though, can your DVD RAM drive definitely read
DVD+R media? ("cdrecord -prcap"?)
