The first reason is that the kernel on the old disk does not detect
the new controller. Maybe it is just because the driver has not been
configured.

The second is that I expect having to look at the old disk several
times until everything is up and running as before, and I'd try to
avoid having to boot twice (the old disk, then going back to the new
one) each time .
