net module testing

Hi,
I am using the 'libc/net' module of NetBSD 3.1 release.

I wanted to test networking APs like gethostbyname(),getaddrinfo() etc
using some networking application.

Could anyone help me by suggesting a suitable application.?
I am new to this and don't have much idea which application to use.
