pkg_add hangs
Recent i386 installations show pkg_add hanging at the end of
installing pre-compiled binaries. Ctrl-c'ing out of the hang yields
the message:
pkg_add: can't chdir back to '/var/tmp/instmp.00366e'
The value of PKG_PATH in the environment for all these examples was
ftp://ftp.netbsd.org/pub/NetBSD/packages/4.0/i386/All.
This behavior is seen in installs from
ftp://ftp.netbsd.org/pub/NetBSD/NetBSD-daily/HEAD/200810100002Z
(vmware image installed from network)
and
ftp://ftp.netbsd.org/pub/NetBSD/NetBSD-4.0.1
(vmware image installed from network)
I don't see this on an install from
ftp://ftp.netbsd.org/pub/NetBSD/NetBSD-release-4-0
(vmware image installed from my own build of 4.0)
nor on an older -current build of 4.99.64 from last June.
(my own build of that -current version)
INTERESTINGLY ENOUGH, when pkg_add thus hangs and fails to finish its
operations, it does complete the installs of dependencies for the pkg
named on the pkg_add command line, AND that pkg *is* installed in
workable shape but does not appear in the listing of pkg_info, whereas
the dependencies so installed do!
This is not a mission-critical problem for me, but it is providing a
pebble-in-my-shoe experience. Thoughts, anyone?
Kind regards,

No no no, my fish's name is Eric, Eric the fish. He's an halibut. I am
not a looney! Why should I be tarred with the epithet looney merely
because I have a pet halibut?
