howto get my email aliases to work? [SEC=UNCLASSIFIED]

Hi all,

in /etc/mail/aliases I have:

# Well-known aliases -- these should be filled in!
root: pts
operator: pts


and in /etc/postfix/main.cf  I have:

alias_maps = hash:/etc/mail/aliases
alias_database = hash:/etc/mail/aliases


i've run newaliases and restarted postfix in /etc/rc.d

but root mail is still not re directed to pts?

can anyone offer advice to someone slightly dense
when it comes to mail setup?
