I finally got the i82946GZ machine set up again.  It reports:


[   232.831] (--) intel(0): Integrated Graphics Chipset: Intel(R) 946GZ

[   232.917] (II) intel(0): SNA initialized with Broadwater (gen4) backend


Again, with the "new" (2019?) version of xf86-video-intel, it had the
same problems previously described (i.e., SNA is broken on these
older-but-not-old-enough chips).

With the 2014 version it works great and I can turn off "TearFree" to
save the performance hit.
